Linear luminaires in the limelight

Individual luminaires by Barthelme illuminate town hall

The town hall in Bad Neustadt an der Saale, completed in 2017, is one of the most modern of its kind in Lower Franconia. In addition to the extraordinary architecture, which was awarded the German Design Award 2018, the building impresses with many technical subtleties, which provide visitors with an unforgettable stay. Individually manufactured LED linear luminaires from Barthelme set lighting accents in the interior and exterior areas and create an appealing ambience. The efficient lighting is controlled via the KNX communication standard and can be configured in groups throughout the building using just one control unit.

Linear luminaires stage the architecture of town hall

The open and closed surfaces of the façade are merged by a protruding roof. A linear RGB light line between the roof and an oriel projecting from the glass façade above the entrance reinforces the overall three dimensional appearance of the town hall and imparts a floating and light character to the rectangular cube. The light line mainly shines in the green city colour of Neustadt an der Saale, which creates an identity for its surroundings. LED linear luminaires from the BARindie series integrated in handrails on the side staircase of the town hall also provide orientation and safety.

Custom-fit linear luminaires integrated in acoustic panels

The centrepiece of the town hall is the large auditorium with a fully equipped stage on which concerts, cabaret and theatre performances regularly take place, as well as travel narratives and other presentations. Acoustic panels with different widths attached to the walls ensure optimum sound distribution. Individual luminaires from the GARindie series by Barthelme were integrated into 50 wall panels at the lower edge to create a cosy atmosphere by directing a homogeneous white light with a colour temperature of 3000 K onto the respective panel below. Each individual luminaire has been manufactured according to individual dimensions and, when switched off, is completely hidden.

Safety lighting embedded in concrete stairs

In the gallery and on the stage, LED luminaires from the GARindie series were integrated as safety lighting in exposed concrete staircases. Due to the very shallow installation depth of only 10 mm between the steps, the lighting designers from abi in Würzburg deliberately dispensed with a homogeneous light line. Instead, the main focus here was on a practical lighting solution that would continue to illuminate the steps in a clearly visible manner in the event of a power failure.  This is made possible by a power supply unit into which DC and AC voltage can be fed on the input side. If the power supply fails, the lighting can continue to be operated via battery.
